2019 President Chris Barrett Q&D

President’s Message:

Starting off the new year with our Annual Dinner event is a reminder to me, the Board and our staff of what a diverse membership we have. Nevada Builders Alliance is proud to have a cross section of members from small, medium and large contractors, subcontractors and suppliers to the construction industry across our State. This means not only do our members rely on us to help their businesses succeed, it also means that we have a lot of work to do, each and every day, to keep your confidence in us.

As our State leaders kick off the 80th Nevada Legislative Session in Carson City, we would like to congratulate Governor Sisolak, the State Constitutional Officers and the members of the Nevada Senate and Nevada Assembly in representing the citizens and businesses of the Silver State. No matter your platform or political bent, these leaders were elected to represent us to make the best decisions for Nevada’s future for many years to come. Promulgating legislation and formulating good public policy takes time and deep discussions.  After the debates, floor speeches and compromises (yes, compromises) we call upon our elected legislators to represent their constituents and balance that for the benefit of the entire State of Nevada.

There are currently over 1000 bill drafts for new legislation. We will do our best to keep you informed of these bills. If you have questions on legislation or if you are available to come to Carson City to voice your concerns in a Committee hearing, please contact myself or Aaron West to help make your arrangements.

Over the past few years we have been working on an aggressive legislative agenda to be the voice of our industry in the Legislature. We have heard from you about what is most important to your business and have already gotten to work to make a difference.

As I look forward to the coming year, I want all of our members to know that Nevada Builders is here to support you and your business. We continue to receive requests to testify, appear on a workforce panel or accept an appointment to a State Committee and are happy to accept in order to represent you. In order to do that effectively, we need your continued input and support.  Make sure to attend our planned events so we can meet you and hear from you.  I invite you to get involved, engage with us so that we can do all we can to meet the needs of your business and our industry.

Until next month, safe travels. — Chris
