Congratulations Job Corps 60th Anniversary
In June, 63 students graduated from Sierra Nevada Job Corps. Thank you to Secretary of State Francisco Aguila for being our keynote speaker and inspiring our students! Graduation is a really big deal at SNJC. As new students enter the program every week and finish at their own pace we hold two graduations a year to honor them. Many students, usually though no fault of their own, haven’t completed high school, and are able to complete through SNJC. It is a time for tears and cheers for students, their families and the SNJC staff who helped them get there.
Two SNJC students won Gold medals during the statewide competition for Skills USA. They then went on to compete in the Nationals in Atlanta, GA last month. Please see the attached for a full recap of their efforts.
During these record breaking heat days there is nothing like a lot of water and a bunch of students to cool down the campus during Field Day. Fun, sun and laughter all around as everyone got soaked!
60 years ago, U.S. President Lyndon Johnson signed the Job Corps program into reality. Job Corps has helped so very many young Americans find their paths to successful careers. In 1979 Sierra Nevada Job Corps opened the program to Nevada youth. At SNJC alone, over 25,000 Nevada youth have completed the program. Thank you for all you do for the great state of Nevada!
